Do I need a Zwave Controller, or can I use Axial with a USB Zwave dongle?

Hi, I'm a newbie that was looking to set up a Zwave security/automation system in my home.  I purchase mHome control a few years back and it looks like they're no longer around, but I did get a USB Zwave dongle with my purchase.  I was wondering if I could use a dedicated server, combined with Axial and the dongle to act as my Zwave controller.  Or do I need to purchase something like a ISY994i as well?  There's just so much out there when it comes to Zwave hardware and I have no idea where to start.

You should be able to use your Zwave dongle with Axial Server (www.axialcontrol.com). What kind of dongle is it?

In this scenario, with Axial Server running, it will be your z-wave controller and send/receive commands using your USB stick.

I have no idea.  It just says Zwave on it, and it's USB.  I guess the only way to find out is to try it out I guess.

Maybe snap a picture of it and include it here - maybe myself or someone will recognize it.

Sorry for the delay.  I finally found it and took some photos:

Looks like you've got an old Wayne Dalton. It'll probably still work, but you'll have somewhat limited support for devices. When you try it, you may need to go to tools/options/zwave controller and use it like a "thinkstick" - or if it has a COM port in your list of serial devices in your device manager, you can put in a COM port and see if that'll work both with and without the beta controller option selected.

Cool!  Thanks for that.  I'll try that out when I get some time.
