thanks for all the help guys.
gotta say i'm kinda feeling like an idiot though cause i can't seem to get any of what you have said to happen. when i select the device and press the remove button, it tells me to press the button on the device. since the devices i am trying to delete are no longer functioning and removed from service, i can't press their button.
i have yet to find the button or location for the command to "remove failed device".
any additional help or guidance would be greatly appreciated. and please speak slowly and over-simplify things like you are talking to a 2 year old . . . . cause that seems to be my level of understanding of this stuff.
thanks

Have you tried to first disable Incontrol Service and then run Zentools?

i had not, i thought the two worked in conjunction with each other.
but you are on to something. i closed IC and opened tools and it recognized my stick and created a list of my devices.
there is lots going on with all the different info boxes in tools, and i cannot get access "help" for some reason. so i assume i just find the devices by ID number that i want to delete and hit the delete icon? is it that simple or is there more to it?
thanks for the help.

You need to find the devices using the ID number and then select the "removed failed device".

How I do it: delete the device, then go to remove z-wave devices. It will lock the controller, and tell me at that point to press the button on the devices which I want to remove. At that point, I just close the window telling me to press the button. The deleted device will no longer appear.

If the device is broken or you aren't able to remove it properly, you'll need to use the Zentools to find the device in the list, then in the button bar for that device, find the icon that says "Remove failed" - you can find it by hovering you mouse over each of the icons until a tool tip pops up. By the way, it's near the end of the list, so if your screen is too small, you may not see it right away - you'll need to press the last small button to "expand" the list to see the remainder.

that was the trick. i did not have Zentools expanded to full screen size so i did not see all the function options. thank you.
i had 4 devices that i needed to delete. i could only delete one per session in Zentools though. i had to delete 1 device from IC and close. then open Zentools and delete 1 device from there. then close Zentools and open IC again and repeat the process. but, it seems to have worked so far.
thanks again to all that posted to help.
