Cloud interaction

I plan to use Tasker to activate scenes, much like you did in your On{x} post, but since I am already invested in Tasker I will stick with it. I was wondering if the InControl cloud was open to direct interaction using the same scripting methods you showed. I do not have a static IP address at my house but since my mobile already interacts with the cloud I was hoping to piggyback off of that.

If it is, could I get the server FQDN and port?

We haven't really got anything in place that we can give you for that, though I'm not opposed to the idea. Can tasker do socket connections? I'm guessing not, in which case we'd probably need to come up with a way to give you special key that you can generate and use for posting...

I haven't found a way for Tasker to use sockets, though their forum shows the developer is interested in creating just such a plug-in.

If you think it would be of lasting value to come up with a way to give me a key, then I'm game, but I'm ok with finding other ways. I could just get a dynamic dns or event use Tasker's ability to emulate screen taps to activate scenes (my last resort). If I could find a way to activate a scene or scene widget programmatically then I wouldn't need to access the cloud server directly. That is probably the best option in the long run, if the mobile app has an API that I can access thru javascript or other means. Given that I could maybe build a plugin for Tasker that would be useful for others, as well. I've never done one of those before, but it would be an interesting and useful project.
