Is there a roadmap or time frame?

Just wondering if there is a roadmap or planned time frame for added features. It appears this is a a fairly small company, one or two people and I'm just curious where resources and time are going?

I notice that the Nest plugin popped up and also the Nuanco door bell thing.

Things that are planned in the uservoice (Mainly the one that I voted on the 'adding actions to inControl') what is happening with them?

I don't mind waiting but I've started to experiment with other software like openHAB to get the results I'm after.

Thanks Josh

I'm interested also. Just wondering where InControl is heading and if it will be supporting new features in the long run (or if the direction is to shift over to the Nucano product).

Thanks for the openHAB link. Wondering what it would be like with openHAB running on a Raspberry Pi under Linux.

This is another potential option for a Raspberry Pi setup: http://razberry.z-wave.me/index.php?id=1

From reading on the forums from memory, openHAB does run on a pi but can be a little slow if a lot of bindings are used and a lot of rules as well. I would assume IC is the same, a rasp pi is a little underpowered.

openHAB allows a lot more interactions but the zwave implementation isn't as neat and as easy as IC. It also doesn't work with locks due to the encryption at the moment.

It allows a lot more complexity but is also a bit more complex to setup as well.

Other HA programs that I have found seem like a large pain to setup and customize. Personally I feel that IC is only missing a couple features that I'm interested in and one may have been solved with the HTTP command addition. I find that most of things I wish the system could do will simply require mild AI. Something that I'm sure won't be available for years. (http://www.myjibo.com/) Or the expensive addition of installing networked microphones around the house. My interest has always been true automation over remote control.

I'm very curios to know some of the things that you guys are trying to do with these other systems. I'm always looking for cool things to add.

I agree a basic time-frame wouldn't hurt. There are a lot of suggested features and it would be great if we had a better idea of priority.

I agree, InControl is only missing a few things. It's why I'm still here.

I think the main advantage at this stage of openhab is the amount of compatibility with other things and flexibility. I can link it to my open energy monitor, my networked samsung TVs, bluetooth, etc.
The documentation is not the best and like you said very complex and can be a pain to setup.

I think I am looking for mostly flexibility in integrating across various technologies, from mechanical switches to z-wave. I like the core architecture concepts that openHAB promotes as it seems like it would allow for ongoing integration with whatever wins as the technology standard for home automation. At the least it would provide options to leverage whatever loses (thinking lots of cheap automation end-points).

I also like the idea of hosting on a Linux platform. The Raspberry-based solutions are primarily interesting just from the learning and tinkering aspects. A cheap host device that seems to have a good following with various home automation integration options.

Josh, have you done any more with OpenHAB? Can you do a general feature comparison between OpenHAB and InControl for Z-Wave functionality?

Thanks!

Openhab is a lot more complex and harder to setup but allows control of a lot more things than InControl.
InControl is easier to use and setup, more wife friendly too with the interface. It will also do zWave locks which openhab doesn't.

I'm running VMs so I run both. I'm actually also running eventghost too.

OpenHab is linked to XBMC and sends GET requests to run scenes in InControl. InControl is still the main controller for me.
