My PC (Windows 7) rebooted overnight for a Windows Update, and now it seems that the Z-stick isn't working properly. I get a lot of device delayed xx.xxxx seconds on Basic Get errors, status is wrong, sensors not reporting, etc. It seems to get better if I unplug/replug the Z-stick, but my Z-Wave network is pretty useless right now.
It also installed Windows 7 SP1 a couple days ago, but it seemed fine yesterday.
Has anyone else encountered this? Any suggestions?

Maybe its a coincidence and you just happened to have a device go bad... you can identify which device it is by sending a command and then watching to see if the blue light on your USB stick goes dark for more than 3-4 seconds. Try to heal your network too. You could also re-install your USB drivers from Silicon labs just in case something got changed in the update.

Thanks Ryan, it seems to be OK now, but I'm not sure what the problem was. I changed some devices to Smart Poll (They are pretty spread out) and I also installed a new device yesterday that is in a good location for repeating, so who knows. Thanks for your help.

Is there an advantage to staggering poll times in a network that is as spread out as mine is? Is there an optimum way to do smart polling? I think my issues may be related to distance...

As a first step, I'd check to see if your devices support associations. If click on your device and associate it to your USB stick, it'll generally notify the USB stick of any changes to the state. So if it's a switch and someone turns it on at the wall, it'll let InControl know that and you can safely increase the poll time to a large number -- I say large number just so that it polls initially when you start InControl then not very frequently after that.
Otherwise, yes there could be an advantage to staggering poll times. If your polls tend to take the USB stick offline for 30 seconds because of distance, then having the polls spread out will at least make other commands seem more responsive since nothing can happen during that 30 seconds while waiting for the device to respond.

Excellent, that makes sense, thank you.
