From SQL Server 2012 forward, management studio no longer directly supports SQLCE data files. I would love to see an option to use SQL Express or a full edition as the database rather than CE.

This is an option we've been considering, though we don't have it on our actual upcoming feature list. If you'd like, feel free to create it so you can get a notification of when it shows up. If lots of votes end up showing up for it, it'll influence the date on which we start coding it.
