Email setup fails with invalid certificate *Solved*

Hi,

Clicking send test email I get:
"remote certificate is invalid according to the validation procedure"
Same error message at gmail and another SMTP host with port 587 (465 times out)and SSL checked.
Get same message regardless of using correct or incorrect login credentials implying failure occurs before credentials checked.

Does the email feature just not work?
I've found zero documentation on Incontrol email setup.
Been considering buying pro, but so far disappointed.

System:
Aeon z-stick s2
Win XP sp3
Silicon labs CP210x bridge driver 6.6.1.0 - 12/10/2012.
Incontrol FREE 3.10.4891.19001, set to use "beta z-wave controller" and to run as a service.

Thanks very much for any help!

Are you using smtp.gmail.com when testing against your gmail account? That message means that the security certificate coming from your mail server is not correct, or is expired, etc. If you use smtp.google.com, this would be the case, but it should work fine using smtp.gmail.com over port 587.

Anything else you've been disappointed with that I can help out with?

If you are using the smpt.gmail.com server and you still get that message, would you mind installing Version 3.13 and letting me know what you see?

Hi,
Thanks for the fast reply.
Yes I use smtp.gmail.com and smtp.googlegmail.com, both working fine with thunderbird email client.
Also fails same way with my tuffmail.com & comcast servers.
With wrong server/port info incontrol times out rather than giving the error message.
Only port 587 seems to work on ANY of these.

How about some examples of Mail configs that DO work, anonymized (sp?) of course.

Other immediate problems:
1) Found incontrol had gone offline several times without my touching app or the z-stick.

2) Can't find a way to make a light turn on at a time and turn off at later time that is randomized to say 40 window minutes.
e.g. on at 7:16pm, Off at 10:20 +- 20m. This for security. Random on off times aren't secure, they just look like a random controller is in place. I want to make lights cycle like I'm here which means somewhat varying on and off times.

3) no documentation (example would suffice) for random min and max minute settings.

4) no documentation for writing/programming scripts.

5) What happens if I buy pro w/ 1 yr support and need upgrade/help in 16 months?

I want to make this work, but am encountering surprising obstacles for rather simple things, I think.

Anyway, I really appreciate your help!

Here's a quick page I just put together for Gmail setup.

I'll address some of the other items shortly... I am in the process of putting together a YouTube video for our channel that highlights some of our features.

Hi,
That gmail setup is what I have that doesn't work.
What do you think is the problem given failure with three different smtp servers? Does it not work in the free version?

FWIW, I would VASTLY prefer a written FAQ on these items than youtube videos. A few sentences on each topic is WAY better (for me) than a video. And with at least one known working example. I don't need screenshots. The FAQ can be indexed by Google search where videos - not so much ;)

Thanks so much!

When you duplicated my gmail setup were you getting the original message you posted about? Did it make a difference when you switched to version 3.13?

I understand about the written FAQ vs Videos. I'll see what I can put together on our sparse help page.

Other notes on the previous questions:

Usually this means that something crashed... could you send an email to support at moonlitzwave.com with your logfile.txt and any Windows Application Event logs you may have?

You always get support even if you are outside your update subscription, but you won't get program updates until you renew it.

Sorry, I missed this post.

I just updated to 3.13 and YES, the gmail setup that I had and as shown in your example, now works. THANK YOU!

Any info on the random light turn on/off? I searched online & forums without finding much relevant.

Thanks!!!

If you don't need actual random minutes, you could try this solution. If you do need more control, you can look at the vacation mode rule, though it's a bit of a complex beast to mess with.
