Not all ZWave devices report energy use.
This is not a limitation of InCOntrol per say (although theoretically could be calculated using 'on' time and knowing load values.)
I have one device (the Aeon Labs‘s Micro Smart Dimmer) that reports energy use in real time and can be viewed in the right pane on the Devices window. If you are looking for historical graphing; Currently InControl does not have an energy reporting module as far as I am aware.

Thank you but i am not really looking for Energy Reporting.... If you have the InControl IOS app you will see that you have an Energy(watts) monitor while i have it on mine it does not reflect any value even if i have the 3 devices turn on. I have the GE 45609 light switch and the GE 45604 Outdoor. What am i missing for these device to report power usage?

Again, your Zwave devices must report energy usage if you want the iOS app to report on watts used.

so how do you do this? I have given my specific device model in here. I am in the forum to get advice. If you know how to do this then i would appreciate a specific answer to my question. If not then please be nice as it doesnt help me or anyone who is trying to get into this Home Automation.

I think they may have been confused buy your descriptions. There are two energy monitoring things. One for each individual device (they can't measure what your whole house uses) and one that measures your whole house.

Your devices don't appear to report energy usage. If you want those devices to report energy usage then you will have to buy a device that does.

If you are talking about this: http://a5.mzstatic.com/us/r30/Purple/v4/b3/c9/3b/b3c93b87-9631-b1d4-41b3-b027c8601a71/screen568x568.jpeg page and why your's shows 0 watts on the top right then you need one of these: http://store.incontrolzwave.com/energy-monitor-zwave I'm assuming inControl supports the energy monitor but I don't have one.

Hope that helps.

Josh,

thank you very much for the clarification. Yes i was referring to that first link. So my GE devices cannot send energy usage if i am understanding it correctly? I really don't need to monitor the whole house just the GE devices i used. Specifically the GE 45604 Outdoor Module. Anyone can share a specific list of link to devices that supports and sends energy usage?

thanks

This looks like a possibility, but I would wait for some responses to this thread to see if anyone else has tried it:

Just as a head's up - for those of you who DO Have some sort of device that monitors energy like a simple device like the Aeon Labs Smart switch, you can make this show the Watt usage in the mobile app by extracting the watt reading from the device and then changing it to a type of device called "EnergyMonitor."

1- To extract a device, select your main device, then click the blue/green icon next to the energy reading and create a new device
2- Hover your mouse over the device type and change it to EnergyMonitor.

If you have multiples of these devices, you InControl will sum them all up and display each in that counter.

Hi Ryan, I'm running 3.88 and I have followed your instructions and not sure if this is a bug just for MC devices and energy monitoring. But the readout I get is just 255, so it just displays 255Watts? Is 255 not just the "on" or tripped value?

Can you tell me which device you are using? Which instructions do you refer to? 255 generally means something is "on" - it doesn't sound like a valid wattage.

I'm using an Aeon Labs Z-Wave In-wall Micro Double Smart Switch (2nd Edition).

For step #1, what was the name of the item you clicked next to when you "extracted" your new device?

Main Device
Blue/Green column, when you hover on it, it displays "Create device to track this sensor reading".
Name Column, End Point 1 (or 2)
Value Column, it's either 0 = OFF, 255 = ON
Label Column, both blank

In your case, those are your controllable endpoints and not energy readings. You could extract either of those as devices, set them as StandardSwitch and then control them manually.

What you are missing is the energy readings that would also show up there -- most likely because it hasn't been configured to send them to InControl. Could you right click the device and auto configure it, then tell me the content of the message you get back?

Ryan-Scott posted this 07 July 2014

Yes, product id 134/18 should be configured just like the AL smart dimmer.

When I config them I see "Electric 2.846 kWh" and a second line "Instant Watts 91.914" in the config window on the right.... What's the difference?

kWh is the "kilowatt hour" reading - meaning how much many k Watts you use in an hour. This is normally what you get charged for by your power company. The "Instant watts" reading is how many watts you are using right now.
