I agree, the feature is probably only useful on tablet and larger screen devices.
I am planning on using a few wall mounted tablets so the floor layout feature is what attracted me to inControl.
Is there any way to get hold of the dev version you speak of, or details of when it will be released?

I figured I would jump in and answer this so you were not left in the dark.
Ryan Scott on the forums here is who is developing the InControl Software.
The Floor layout feature has a few bugs in the current release. The image uploading issue is one of them.
There is a fix in the current development version of the software so the next official release will have this patched.
The Floor layout feature is only usable in the Smartphone Apps for Android or Iphone
There are two versions of InControl for mobile phones. There is a version that connects directly to your home system via IP:Port and this version is where the Floor layout feature is used.
Then there is the newer apps that use the cloud based controlling. You login to the cloud account and it provides a connection to your home server. This app does not at this time support the Floor layout feature
The Floor Layout feature I think would work good on the desktop app or tablets that can make use of a wider screen. I do not see many people making use of Floor Layouts on smaller screen smartphones though. They can simply use the Room List to organize devices by Rooms.

Yea I can definitely see the floorplan feature being great on a larger screen such as tablets or touch screen computers.
I think the latest inControl release in these forums has the fixes for floorplans. I have honestly never configured floorplans myself so I do not know if that feature is even fully functional.

I am actually designing a web based interface that will support floor plans as well. It is not publicly available right now but its coming along. The issue with a web interface is it requires your device to be online to access the web control panel as opposed to running a local copy of InControl HA.
The beauty of a web interface is the fact that is compatible with any web browser. Simply load the control panel and go.
