I am new to Z-wave but I have big Ideas if I can get some of the basics working first.
I have a recent release of InControl I just purchased and downloaded about 2 weeks ago. (Sorry I don't have the exact version but it is installed at my cabin 4 hours away and the Internet seems to be down up there tonight, so I can't remote in and check the version)
I have an Aeon Labs USB Z stick series 2, recently updated firmware.
I have an Intermatic screw in lamp module.
The lamp module is registered as "lamp mod 1" and it works.
I can turn the lamp on and off by clicking on it under the devices tab.
I create a new scene in the scenes tab called "loft light on".
I add the device "lamp mod 1".
In the scene display area I see "lamp mod 1" with a slider (even though this is a switch not a dimmer), a little gear with some parameters associated when clicked, and a pair of up/down radio buttons which don't seem to do anything. There is no power button such as I see associated with it in the devices tab.
I set the slider all the way to the right, which to me means On.
I preset my scene by turning "lamp mod 1" to off in the devices tab.
I return to the scenes tab and I click on "activate scene", but the light doesn't come on, even though in the devices tab the lamp module indicates that it has turned on. But only briefly. If I highlight the lamp module it updates and indicates that it is off again.
I have tried the same process with a second lamp module and also with a GE switched outlet, all with the same results.
Interestingly I have created a similar but opposite scene named "loft light off". If I manually turn the lamp on in the devices tab, "loft light off" will turn it off.
What am I missing?
Thanks!
Very simple scene trouble

My Internet connection was back on again up at my cabin this evening so I was able to RDP in and test.
Yes, changing the device type to a switch removes the slider and now my basic scenes are working. I can see (from my security cameras) the lights going on and off as configured in my scenes!
I have some other questions but I will post those as a new topic.
Thanks for your help and fast response!

It could be because of them being on/off but having a slider. It sounds like they are being detected as a dimmer. You can change it to a switch by selecting the switch and then putting your mouse on top of the "DimmerSwitch" text so you can change it to a Standard Switch.
