I am using a Aeon Zstick ver2, I installed the software on a laptop clean windows install to test before I put it on my server.

WHY IS ADDING A DEVICE SO HARD? Every time I do it says failed the second I press the program button on the device I am adding. Even worse is sometimes it gets added anyway or adds something completely wrong like a "dimmer". I managed to get a motion detector working fine and a door sensor until I restarted the computer now that is messed up again. Trying to add a siren / strobe and it can't see it at all.

Using Homeseer... works perfectly fine sees all the devices and their status... I honestly don't get this software and I am really upset so far that I have spent almost $70 on it. I love to tinker and mess around with this stuff but THIS SHOULDN'T BE THE HARD PART!

Be sure to use the Beta z-wave controller (tools/options). Also, since you are using the Z-stick, you can follow these steps.

If it's incorrectly detected as a DimmerSwitch you can simply change the type. Put your mouse on top of the "DimmerSwitch" text to get the option to change it.

So I finally get it working BUT I don't understand why SOMETIMES it will show my battery level and sometimes it doesn't. Also my multi-sensors SOMETIMES show temp, lighting, and humidity but sometimes they don't. What is the cause of this? Currently moving everything over to my server and it sees my door sensors trip no problem but my motion sensors not at all. Also again non of them showing any of the other sensors (e.g. Battery, temp, etc...) Also I still find it odd that it will say failed to add device but then 5 seconds later it shows up. Obviously it looks like it loses control of the Z-wave controller in order for it to add the new device like I would if I unplugged it from the computer and pressed the button the controller. However, your software shouldn't give an error when doing this.

Apayson85, I completely understand your frustration. I also thought it would be fun to tinker with the API but spend most of my time on baseline configuration. I have a few energy metered power switches and the readings come and go. I suppose my complaint is the bizarre "documentation". I can find a posts for building a complex scenes, but no explanation of the menu items. For example, what is "Heal network"? In previous versions it acted like it did something, but now produces a an error (use Beta Controller; I do.) Also, how do I know I am using the most current release? The Forums announce release 3.10. I am using 3.12.

The add-ons for Homeseer are pretty impressive, but the price is not. I like InControl when it's working and the instant updates to the mobile versions is very convenient.

Have you gone through these steps? Generally, the most important thing is that you have to associate the sensor device to your USB stick. Sometimes you need to configure the device itself to send the reports, as many of them by default aren't setup to send anything.

It is odd that you get an error saying it failed - could you email your logfile.txt to support at moonlitzwave.com so we can take a look at what's going on?

Documentation is indeed sparse. We have the help page, which continues to see new improvements, but in the end, I'm the programmer, the support person and the documentation writer trying to do all this on the side while still working my regular full time job. As a result, the documentation tends to lag behind other things like new features and support.

Heal network goes through each node in your network and requests that it re-discover it's neighbors. This can help in networks where you've added new devices to boost range and you need all your other devices to "learn" about the new device. Sometimes it can iron out communication problems as well. As far as your error message, it would be helpful to see your logfile.txt - please send it to support at moonlitzwave.com so we can examine it.

The latest official version is 3.10. You are running a beta version at 3.12.
